Magento was founded by Roy Rubin and Yossi Wolff in 2007, with additional funding from venture capitalists. The first version of Magento (Open Source Edition) was released in March 2008, followed by the Enterprise Edition in November 2008. In 2015, eBay Inc. acquired Magento Commerce for $1.68 billion to strengthen its commerce offerings.
