Straight-through Ethernet cables have the same color order for the Rx (receive) and Tx (transmit) pairs at both ends of the cable. They are used to connect two devices with the same type of network interface, such as a computer to a switch or a router. Crossover Ethernet cables have crossed Rx and Tx pairs at both ends. They are used to connect two devices with complementary network interfaces, such as connecting two computers directly.
