The Amazon Machine Image (AMI) is a template that represents a complete compute environment for an Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) instance, including the server type (such as CPU and memory configuration), an operating system, and application software that's stacked on it. An AMI also includes the storage needed to boot the instance.
