An AMI (Amazon Machine Image) is a template for launching EC2 instances, containing the operating system, applications, and other necessary settings. A Snapshot is a point-in-time copy of an EBS volume, including the file system snapshots, data, and all changes that have been made to the volume up to that point. While an AMI can be used to launch multiple EC2 instances, a snapshot cannot be launched directly but must first be used to create a new AMI.
