There are four main types of Network Address Translation (NAT): Static NAT, Dynamic NAT, Port Address Translation (PAT), and NAT over VPN. Static NAT assigns a public IP to each private IP address in your network, while Dynamic NAT assigns a pool of public IPs to private IP addresses on demand. Port Address Translation shares one public IP among multiple private IP addresses by translating port numbers instead of IP addresses. NAT over VPN creates a secure tunnel between two networks using a combination of NAT and Virtual Private Network (VPN) technologies.
