A crankshaft explosion, also known as a crankcase explosion or engine knock, is an unwanted phenomenon that occurs in the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine. It happens when the air-fuel mixture detonates in multiple places within the cylinder instead of only at the spark plug timed ignition.
