What is the secure hash algorithm (sha and sha-1)?

Answer Posted / Shruti Mishra

The Secure Hash Algorithm (SHA) is a family of cryptographic hash functions designed by the NSA. The two most commonly used versions are SHA-1, which produces a 160-bit hash, and SHA-2, which includes variants producing hashes of lengths 224, 256, 384, or 512 bits (SHA-224, SHA-256, SHA-384, and SHA-512 respectively). These algorithms are widely used for digital signatures, message authentication, and data integrity checks.
