Kerberos is an authentication protocol that uses secret-key cryptography. It provides strong authentication for client/server applications using cryptographic keys. Kerberos ensures secure communication over insecure networks by verifying the identities of requesting clients and services and encrypting their communications. The protocol operates on the basis of tickets, which are credentials issued by a Kerberos Authentication Server (AS) to both clients and servers.
