Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) is a protocol used to map IP addresses to their corresponding MAC addresses in a local network. When a device needs to send data to another device on the same network, it sends an ARP request broadcasting the target IP address to all devices on the network. The device with that IP address replies with its MAC address. The sending device then stores this mapping in its ARP cache for future use.
