COM components have several potential drawbacks. First, they require registration in the system registry which can lead to clutter and potential errors. Second, COM does not support object-oriented programming concepts like inheritance or encapsulation natively. Lastly, debugging and maintenance can be difficult due to the interoperability issues between different versions of COM libraries.
