Differentiate between stainless steel and alloy steel?
Answer Posted / Sudershan Kumar
Stainless steel is an iron-based alloy that contains a minimum of 10.5% chromium to form a passive oxide film on the surface, providing corrosion resistance. Alloy steel, on the other hand, is an iron-based alloy with added elements (like carbon, manganese, nickel, molybdenum) for specific properties such as hardness, strength, or resistance to wear and heat. Stainless steels are inherently corrosion resistant, while alloy steels require additional treatments like painting or galvanizing for corrosion protection.
