Retrovirus and Provirus are two distinct states of a retrovirus in the life cycle.
A Retrovirus is a type of virus that contains RNA as its genetic material and reverse transcriptase enzyme, which allows it to convert its RNA into DNA upon entering a host cell. The viral RNA genome integrates into the host cell's chromosomal DNA, creating a Provirus.
A Provirus is the integrated form of the retroviral DNA within the host cell's chromosomes. Once integrated, the provirus can remain dormant or cause ongoing infection by producing viral proteins and new virions (infectious viral particles).
