Immunoglobulins, also known as antibodies, are proteins that are produced by B cells in response to antigens. Each immunoglobulin molecule consists of four polypeptide chains: two heavy chains (H) and two light chains (L). The H chains contain multiple domains, including the variable region (V) for antigen binding and the constant region (C), which determines the class or isotype of the antibody. The L chains also have a variable region for antigen recognition and a constant region. The four polypeptide chains are held together by disulfide bonds.
