A surfactant is a type of molecule that lowers the surface tension between two phases (usually a liquid and gas, or solid and liquid). Surfactants have both hydrophilic (water-attracting) and hydrophobic (water-repelling) properties. They are widely used in various applications such as detergents, emulsifiers, and wetting agents.
