Distributed Control System (DCS), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), and Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) are all control systems used in industrial automation. Here's the difference between them:
1. DCS: DCS is a computer-based system that controls plant processes by using distributed microprocessors to gather data from remote locations, analyze it, and send control commands back to these locations.
2. PLC: PLC is a digital computer used for automation of industrial processes. It reads the input signal (such as temperature or pressure), compares it with a set point, and outputs a control signal to drive a process. PLCs are typically used for discrete operations where the input and output are defined states (ON/OFF).
3. SCADA: SCADA is a system that allows remote monitoring and control of processes. It gathers data from several locations, processes it, and provides the operators with an interface to interact with the system. Unlike DCS and PLC, SCADA is used for continuous operations, where the input and output can take many values (e.g., flow rate, pressure).
