The voltage-current (VI) characteristic of an ideal diode is a rectangular hyperbola. In forward bias, it has a nearly zero voltage drop across it and current flows freely. In reverse bias, the voltage across it increases linearly with the current until a threshold voltage (Vt) is reached, at which point the diode blocks current.
