Why common-collector circuit is known as an emitter follower?

The Common-Collector (CC) circuit, also called the Emitter Follower, derives its name from the fact that the emitter of the transistor in this configuration is connected to a common node with the input. The output voltage closely follows (follows) the input voltage level, hence it's referred to as an emitter follower.
