The transfer function is a mathematical representation of a system's behavior, typically in terms of Laplace transform. It describes the relationship between the input (either reference or disturbance) and output (controlled variable) of a linear time-invariant system. The transfer function is obtained by taking the Laplace transform of the input-output relation and dividing it by the Laplace transform of the input.
