The Polarization Index (Pi value) is a measurement used to evaluate the quality and durability of electrical insulation in power equipment. It provides information on the time required for the insulating materials to reach their maximum voltage withstand capability after an overvoltage event.n
1. Simple Definition: The polarization index represents the ratio between the highest voltage that can be safely applied to the insulation after a dielectric disturbance and the voltage immediately following the disturbance.nnFor example, if the highest voltage that can be safely applied is 25 kV, and the initial voltage after the disturbance was 10 kV, the polarization index would be 2.5 (25/10).
