Define What is the origin of name Railway Sleepers?

Answer Posted / Dilbagh Singh

Railway sleepers, also known as ties in North America, derive their name from the original wooden blocks used to support and align the tracks for railroads. The term 'sleeper' comes from the fact that they were designed to allow the trains to 'sleep' on them, maintaining a consistent distance between rails.
