Why concrete barriers have curved surface profiles?

Concrete barriers often have curved surface profiles to reduce the impact force in case of collisions, such as vehicle crashes. The curvature distributes the energy over a larger area and reduces the stress concentration on one point, thereby reducing damage and potential injury.
