A 51% attack, also known as a majority attack, occurs when a single entity or group controls more than half of the mining power in a proof-of-work (PoW) blockchain. They can then manipulate transactions, double-spend coins, and disrupt the network's normal operation by rejecting valid blocks or creating invalid ones.
