In deep learning, an Encoder is a neural network that transforms raw input data into a more compact representation, often for the purpose of downstream tasks like generation or classification. Encoders are commonly used in autoencoders, variational autoencoders, and recurrent neural networks (RNNs). The output of an encoder is typically called the latent representation or embedding.
