In MongoDB, the min key represents the smallest possible value for a given data type (e.g., -18446744073709551615 for integers or ISODate('1970-01-01T00:00:00Z') for dates). On the other hand, the max key represents the largest possible value for a given data type. These values are used as the lower and upper limits in indexes.
