When should I use a Classic Load Balancer and when should I use an Application load balancer?

You should use a Classic Load Balancer for EC2-class instances, or Amazon Elastic MapReduce (EMR) clusters. It is useful when you don't have application-level information about the incoming traffic. On the other hand, use an Application Load Balancer when your application requires path-based routing, HTTP headers, or WebSockets. It is suitable for containerized applications and microservices.
