Creating a custom master page involves the following steps: 1. Create a new HTML file as a copy of an existing SharePoint master page (e.g., v4.master). 2. Modify the HTML and CSS according to your requirements. 3. Save the HTML file with a .master extension in the MasterPage Gallery. 4. Register the new master page in the web.masterurl property of the Web Application's Web Config file.
