What is octane number and cetane number?

Answer Posted / Seetendra Kumar Singh

Octane number is a measure of a gasoline's ability to resist engine knocking. A higher octane number indicates a more resistant fuel, which allows the engine to operate under high compression without detonating prematurely. Cetane number is similar for diesel fuel, measuring its ignition quality.
