Generally, the person who is being sponsored by a U.S. citizen family member is the principal applicant. However, in some cases, derivative relatives (such as unmarried children under 21, and married sons/daughters of any age) may also be eligible to immigrate based on the sponsorship of an immediate relative. It's best to consult with a U.S. immigration attorney or visit the official U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) website for more detailed information.
