Give an account of the costumes of Satavahana period.

Answer Posted / Ashwanee Kumar Singh

The Satavahana period, which spanned from 3rd century BC to 3rd century AD in India, is known for its rich and diverse fashion culture. The costumes during this era were primarily made from cotton and silk, with an emphasis on comfort and elegance. For the upper class, clothing was often colorful and elaborate, featuring intricate patterns and designs, such as geometric shapes, floral motifs, and animal figures. Men typically wore a dhoti (a long piece of cloth wrapped around the waist) or a loincloth, while women wore sarees (long draped garments). Jewelry was also an important part of Satavahana fashion, with gold and pearls being popular choices.
