In a three-wire RTD (Resistance Temperature Detector), the wires serve different purposes:nn1) The sensing element or resistance temperature detector (RTD) wire (usually made of platinum) carries the electrical current and its resistance changes with temperature.nn2) The reference junction wire connects the RTD sensor to a reference junction where the thermometer is kept at a constant temperature. This allows for temperature compensation during measurements.nn3) The third (or lead) wire connects the RTD element and the reference junction to the measuring instrument, completing the circuit.
