To find the maximum number of 2mm diameter solid cylindrical pipes that can fit into an 8mm diameter hollow cylindrical pipe, we need to calculate the ratio of their diameters and find the number of layers and then the number of pipes in each layer. The radius of the smaller pipe is 1mm (2mm/2) and the inner radius of the larger pipe is 4mm (8mm/2). The maximum number of layers that can be formed is the number of times the smaller pipe's circumference fits within the larger pipe's inner circumference, which is approximately 7.91753 (2**π / (4 - 1)). However, since we cannot have a fraction of a layer, round down to 7 layers. Now, calculate the number of pipes in each layer: number of pipes per layer = π * r^2, where r is the radius of the smaller pipe. The total number of pipes that can fit is: total pipes = layers * number of pipes per layer = 7 * (π * 1^2) = approximately 28.2743. Since we cannot have a fraction of a pipe, round down to 28.
