To calculate the recovery of steam from coal in a boiler, you first determine the heat content (calorific value) of the coal. Then, you convert this energy into the amount of steam produced by using the steam tables. For example, if your coal has a calorific value of 30,000 kJ/kg and the boiler efficiency is 85%, the amount of steam produced can be calculated as follows: (heat content * boiler efficiency) / (specific heat of steam * latent heat of vaporization).
