An objective is a specific, measurable, and attainable goal that an organization or individual aims to achieve. Business objectives typically focus on increasing revenue, improving efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing customer satisfaction. Characteristics of sound business objectives include being specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-bound (SMART), and aligned with the organization's mission and values. Objectives should be verifiable so that progress can be tracked and success or failure can be determined. An objective cannot be a planning premise because it is a goal to be achieved, not a starting point for planning. Planning premises are assumptions about the future that serve as a basis for making plans.
