1. Know Your Customer (KYC):
- KYC is a process used by financial institutions to verify the identity and suitability of customers before opening an account or conducting business with them.
- The purpose of KYC is to combat money laundering, terrorist financing, and fraud.
- Key elements of KYC include: identity verification, address verification, source of funds verification, and ongoing monitoring of transactions.
2. Endorsement of Cheques:
- Endorsing a cheque involves signing the back of the cheque to transfer ownership or allow another person to deposit it.
- Common endorsements include 'Order', 'Pay', or 'A/C Pay' followed by the name of the payee.
- Banks may require specific endorsements for certain transactions, such as a crossed cheque that can only be deposited into the named account.
3. Pay Order:
- A Pay Order is a document issued by a bank that instructs the bank to pay a specified amount to the person named on the pay order.
- Unlike a cheque, a pay order does not require a signature of the payer and can be used for small transactions.
- Pay orders are often used for domestic transfers and can be cashed at any branch of the issuing bank.
4. Bank Draft:
- A Bank Draft (also known as a banker's draft) is a payment instrument issued by a bank that guarantees payment to the named payee upon presentation of the draft to the issuing bank.
- Unlike a cheque, a bank draft does not require a signature of the payer and is backed by the full faith and credit of the issuing bank.
- Bank drafts can be used for international transfers and are often required as a form of payment for certain transactions, such as purchasing goods or services online.
