Deflation is a sustained decline in the general price level of goods and services in an economy. It occurs when there is a decrease in the money supply, an excess supply of goods, or a fall in aggregate demand. Deflation can lead to economic contraction, decreased consumer spending, increased debt burdens, and delayed investments.
