To calculate heat transfer in an unsteady-state reactor with a jacket containing either steam or brine, you can use the Energy Balance Equation for the reactor and the Jacket. The Energy Balance Equation for the reactor is:nnQ_R = m_R * Cp_R * dT_RnWhere: n- Q_R is the heat generated or absorbed by the reactor per unit timen- m_R is the mass of the reactor fluidn- Cp_R is the specific heat capacity of the reactor fluidn- dT_R is the change in temperature of the reactor fluidnFor the jacket, you can use the following Energy Balance Equation:nnQ_J = U_o * A_o * (T_jacket - T_shell)nWhere:n- Q_J is the heat transferred from the jacket to the reactor per unit timen- U_o is the overall heat transfer coefficientn- A_o is the outer surface area of the reactorn- T_jacket is the temperature of the jacket fluidn- T_shell is the temperature of the shell (reactor wall)nTo solve this problem, you need data for m_R, Cp_R, U_o, A_o, T_jacket, and T_shell.
