1. Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) is a measure of the strength of a desired signal compared to the background noise, while Carrier-to-Noise Ratio (CNR) specifically refers to the ratio of the carrier signal power to the noise power in a communication system. In satellite communications, CNR is used because it considers only the noise that affects the carrier frequency, which is typically more relevant for satellite links.
2. The Power Spectral Density (PSD) of a Gaussian noise is 1/2*N, where N is the noise power. This can be proven using the Fourier transform of the Gaussian function.
