In GSM, a 4+4+4 configuration refers to three Base Station Subsystems (BSS) that are connected to one Mobile Services Switching Center (MSC). Each BSS consists of four Base Transceiver Stations (BTS), which serve as the interfaces between the mobile stations and MSC. The four BTS in each BSS operate on different frequencies.
