SS7 (Signaling System No. 7) is a set of telecommunication standards used for exchanging calls, messaging service, and network management information between mobile telephony networks and between telephony networks in general. Its use as a backbone for all other communication networks provides a reliable and efficient method for routing and managing voice and data traffic across diverse network types and technologies. However, it's important to note that SS7 has security vulnerabilities and is being replaced by more secure protocols like Diameter and SIP.
