Shaft Power Demand (SPD) and Brake Horsepower (BHP) are related to each other, but they are used in different contexts:
1. Shaft Power Demand (SPD): Refers to the power required at the input shaft of an electrical motor or engine, which is needed to drive a mechanical load. In an electrical load list, SPD represents the electrical power consumed by motors, pumps, and other equipment.
2. Brake Horsepower (BHP): Represents the actual mechanical work done by an internal combustion engine or prime mover. BHP takes into account losses due to friction, inefficiencies, and other factors within the engine. In some applications, the shaft power demand of a motor is converted to BHP for comparison with the prime mover's output.
