Why the cores of large transformers build up of circular cross
section?
Answer Posted / Aditya Narayan
Large transformer cores are typically made up of circular laminations for a few reasons. First, circular laminations minimize the number of edges and thus reduce eddy currents that can cause heating in the core. Second, circular laminations allow for more uniform distribution of magnetic flux, which helps improve the overall efficiency of the transformer. Lastly, it is easier to stack circular laminations in a cylindrical shape, making the manufacturing process simpler.
