The starting current for a three-phase motor can be calculated using the Slot Current Method or Torque Per Unit (TPU) Method. The formula for the latter is:nnI_start = (k * I_rated * TPU) / cos(φ)nWhere I_start is the starting current, k is a constant (usually between 4 and 6), I_rated is the rated current of the motor, TPU is the torque per unit at the rated speed, and φ is the power factor of the motor.
