what is the difference between an alternator and a
synchronous motor
Answer Posted / Prashant Kumar Sinha
An Alternator is an AC generator that converts mechanical energy into electrical energy. It works on the principle of electromagnetic induction and produces AC output. On the other hand, a Synchronous Motor is an AC motor that runs at a speed synchronized with the supply frequency. Unlike an alternator, it requires external DC excitation to establish magnetic flux.
