A servo motor is a type of precision motor used for closed-loop control systems, where it's required to follow or reach a specific position, speed, or torque. This makes them ideal for applications such as robotics, automation, and control systems. They are different from regular DC or AC motors because they have a feedback mechanism (usually a potentiometer or an encoder) that allows the motor's position to be monitored and corrected as needed.
