A converter is an electrical circuit that changes one form of electrical energy to another, such as AC to DC or DC to AC. While a rectifier converts AC to DC using thyristors, an inverter converts DC to AC using different components like capacitors and transistors. A rectifier thyristor cannot be directly used in place of an inverter thyristor because the purpose, functionality, and the circuit design are fundamentally different.
