A gravity dam is a type of dam that derives its structural strength from its own weight (gravity). It consists mainly of concrete, masonry, or earth fill. The forces causing stability in a gravity dam include:
1. Self-weight:n- Pushes the dam downwards, providing the main force for stability.
2. Friction:n- Resists the lateral movement of the dam.
3. Passive Earth Pressure:n- The pressure exerted by the soil behind the dam on the dam itself.
