In steel designations, R-condition refers to a heat treatment process that involves reheating steel to a specific temperature and then quenching it rapidly. This results in martensitic structure and increased hardness. T-condition, on the other hand, is a tempering process that follows the R-condition heat treatment. Tempering reduces hardness but increases toughness and wear resistance.
