First Angle Projection (FAP) and Third Angle Projection (TAP) are two common methods used in technical drawing to project 3D objects onto a 2D plane. The main differences between the two are:
- In FAP, the front view is drawn looking from the positive xy-plane towards the positive z-axis. Meanwhile, in TAP, the front view is drawn looking from the negative z-axis towards the positive xy-plane.
- In FAP, the right side of the object appears on the left side of the drawing, while the left side appears on the right. Conversely, in TAP, the right side of the object appears on the right side of the drawing, and the left side appears on the left.
