To calculate the total volume (V) of materials required for a 20mm sand-face plaster on walls consisting of 12mm backing coat of 1:3 cement mortar and an 8mm finished coat of 1:1 cement mortar, including scaffolding, watering, finishing etc., you can use the following steps:
1. Calculate the volume (Vb) of the 12mm backing coat:
- Area (Ab) of a wall section in square meters (m²): A = length x width
- Volume of the backing coat per unit area (Vbc_unit) = 12 mm / (3 * (1 + 0.4)) = Vbc_unit (approximately 3.75mm/m²)
- Total volume (Vb) of the backing coat = Ab x Vbc_unit
2. Calculate the volume (Vf) of the 8mm finished coat:
- Volume of the finished coat per unit area (Vfc_unit) = 8 mm / (1 + 0.4) = Vfc_unit (approximately 7.33mm/m²)
- Total volume (Vf) of the finished coat = Ab x Vfc_unit
3. Calculate the volume (Vs) of the sand-face plaster:
- Volume of sand-face plaster per unit area (Vsp_unit) = 20 mm / (3 * (1 + 0.4)) = Vsp_unit (approximately 6.67mm/m²)
- Total volume (Vs) of the sand-face plaster = Ab x Vsp_unit
