Design a cantilever type retaining wall to retain sand for
4m above the ground. The sand fall slopes at the rate of 1
vertical to 2 horizontal. The weight of sand is 18000 N/m3,
the angle of repose being 30. The safe bearing capacity of
the soil is 200 kn/m2 at 1/25m below the ground level. Use
m 15 concrete mix.

First, determine the volume of sand (V_sand) and the weight of retaining wall (W_wall).n V_sand = area * height = 4m * (1/2) * 3m * 2m = 12 cubic meters.n W_wall = (volume of concrete + volume of steel) * density of concrete mixn Let L be the length of the retaining wall, b be its width at the bottom, and t be the thickness of the wall. We can approximate the height of the wall as H = 4m - b.n Solve for L: L = sqrt((12 cubic meters + W_wall) / (b * H))n To determine the required reinforcement, let d be the depth of the steel bars, and fy_s be the yield strength of steel.n The ultimate load that each unit area of the wall can carry is: Ultimate_Load = fy_s * d + fy_c * b * Hn The required depth of the steel bars (d) can be determined by solving:n Ultimate_Load > (W_wall / length of the wall) n Solving for d: d > ((W_wall / length of the wall) - fy_c * b * H) / fy_s
